Wildlife and Stargazing
Wildlife and Stargazing
We don’t actively farm our organic fields and so, being free from pesticides, we have an abundance of wildlife. Regularly spotted roaming the fields are roe and red deer, hares and badgers. Birds including buzzards, woodpeckers, barn owls, nuthatches and bullfinches can be seen either soaring high in the sky or eating from one of the many feeders dotted around. Red kites and peregrine falcons can also be seen flying overhead in the summer months. We are an Exmoor National Park accredited Dark Sky Friendly Business and our rural location means that we have very little light pollution. On a clear night thousands of stars, planets, the International Space Station and even the Milky Way are easily visible from our fields (the photos above were both taken from our top field and show Comet Neowise and the Milky Way). We highly recommend an evening of stargazing whilst staying here - we've binoculars for guests to use or we can set up our telescope and share some of our basic astronomy knowledge with you. Alternatively, attend a Dark Skies Festival event held in October each year by Exmoor National Park.
